Okay, here goes on actually trying to offer something other than dribble on this blog. In the Mary Magdalene photo album are a number of images from art from the 14th c to the present. Sorry that the descriptions/references are not there. These images were used in a series of kn/exion worship services - motivated, in part, because of the hype over the DaVinci Code [which, btw, is a so-so mystery but gives a glimpse into the nether regions of church history/speculation]. The sexuality is pretty apparent in the images - but is that a sacramentalizing of sexuality or an attempt to somehow discredit Mary, discredit the female in Christianity. i go for the former. In any event, the images provoked great conversation and, after two weeks on mary per se, we engaged in a prayerful honouring of women, particularly those in the sex trade, who are missing or were murdered. Powerful stuff really.
mmm... IMHO so-so is a very generous award for "The Da-vinci code" - personally thought it was a terrible book (not to do with the faith controversy bit, simply the quality of writing) I prefered "Angels and Demons"... just.
